Privacy Policy

Last updated: 16 September 2026

This policy explains how Energy Bill Finder ("we", "us", "our") handles personal information. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

What we collect

We only collect what we need to compare your energy bill and get back to you:

  • Contact details - your name, mobile number, email address and postcode.
  • Consent records - the wording you agreed to, the date and time, the page you were on, and the IP address the request came from. We keep this so we can show that you asked us to contact you.
  • Energy details you give us - your current retailer, plan and usage, where you choose to share them so we can compare accurately.
  • Call records - notes from our calls with you, and call recordings where we have told you the call is being recorded.
  • Website data - basic server logs such as IP address, browser type and pages requested.

How we collect it

Directly from you: through the form on this website, when you speak to one of our consultants, or when you reply to us. We do not buy marketing lists and we do not contact people who have not asked to hear from us.

Why we use it

  • To compare your energy plan against plans available at your address.
  • To contact you by phone, SMS or email about that comparison, as you asked us to.
  • To arrange a transfer to a new plan, if you decide to proceed.
  • To keep proof of your consent and of any opt-out you make.
  • To meet our legal and regulatory obligations.

Who we share it with

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We disclose it only:

  • to an energy retailer, where you have chosen to proceed with one of their plans, so they can set up your account;
  • to the service providers who run our systems on our behalf, such as our hosting, database, telephony and SMS providers, under obligations of confidentiality;
  • where we are required or authorised by law to do so.

Some of these providers may store data outside Australia. Where that happens we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.

Marketing and how to opt out

We contact you because you asked us to. You can withdraw that consent at any time and we will stop:

  • reply STOP to any SMS we send you; or
  • tell the consultant on the phone; or
  • contact us using the details at the end of this policy.

We action opt-out requests promptly and keep a record that you opted out, so that we do not contact you again.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as we need it for the purposes above, and for as long as we are required to keep it by law. Consent and opt-out records are kept for longer, because we need them to show that we contacted you lawfully and to make sure an opt-out is honoured.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, including encrypted connections to this website, access controls on our systems, and limiting access to staff who need it. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Cookies

This site uses only what it needs to function. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels on this site. Our web server keeps standard access logs.

Accessing, correcting or deleting your information

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Contact us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable time, and we may need to verify your identity first. If we refuse a request we will tell you why.

Complaints

If you think we have mishandled your personal information, contact us first and we will investigate. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always on this page, with the date it was last updated.
